Minister of Defense, Gen Aliyu Gusau has not resigned— Presidency
General Gusau remains in Office as Minister of Defence.
His absence from today’s meeting of the Federal Executive Council which was cited in support of the false report of his resignation was with the permission of President Goodluck Jonathan.
This is contained in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President, (Media & Publicity), Reuben Abati.
In a similar vein, Mr Adebisi Adekunle, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Defence, Gen. Aliyu Gusau, has denied reports in some media that the minister had resigned.
Adekunle made the denial on Wednesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
Gusua, a former Security Adviser, was sworn in as Minister of Defence by President Goodluck Jonathan on March 5 along with 10 others.
On March 8, 2010, President, Goodluck Jonathan announced the removal of Maj.-Gen. Sarki Mukhtar as National Security Adviser and replaced him with Gusau
Gusau held the same position during the most of the Olusegun Obasanjo’s presidency.
Before then, he was in the Military Intelligence.
